The Sacramento Region has over 700 schools and an enrollment of over 395,000 students within the K-12 system. The most recent data of high school graduation rates shows that at nearly 86 percent, the Sacramento
Region has a slightly higher percentage of graduates than the state (83 percent). In terms of SAT scores, the Sacramento Region averages higher than California with a total average score of 1520 for the 2005-2006 school year in comparison to 1506 for the state.

Twenty-nine percent of the Sacramento Region population aged 25 years and over in the year 2005 held a bachelor’s degree or higher level of education. The Region has a varied offering of public and private postsecondary institutions, including University of California, Davis and Sacramento State as the major four-year universities (with approximately 30,000 students each in the 2006 Fall term) and eight California community colleges.
