UNITEK CHOOSES SACRAMENTO FOR CAMPUS LOCATION
The Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization (SACTO) announced today that Unitek IT Education, one of Northern California’s top information technology training providers, has selected the Sacramento Region as the site for its latest information technology (IT) certification training and healthcare educational facility. The Sacramento campus will be Unitek’s fourth dual training facility; other locations include Fremont, Santa Clara, and San Francisco.
Unitek was founded in 1992 as a high-technology network and systems integrator. In 1996, Unitek started providing IT training to clients that represent a wide range of firms in terms of size and industry background. In 2001, Unitek expanded into healthcare education and is now ranked among the top healthcare training schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Unitek College's healthcare tracks include Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Vocational Nurse and Foundations in Clinical Research. The Sacramento program will initially focus on the Vocational Nursing program.
Eli Soto, Unitek College’s Director of Strategic Projects, was responsible for orchestrating the Sacramento location decision. “The Sacramento Region is a great place for Unitek to locate our new campus. The region’s population continues to grow and there has been a tremendous need in this area for qualified, skilled healthcare professionals,” stated Soto. “Unitek has been able to fill this niche in the San Francisco Bay Area and we hope to do the same thing here in the Sacramento Region.”
SACTO’s 2006/07 Board Chair, Jeff Koewler added, “Preparing people for important jobs in the social services sector is critical for the region’s continued success. The Sacramento Region is a strong medical services center providing expertise in everything from basic medical services to cutting edge research and technology applications – Unitek will certainly strengthen this important sector.”
The new campus will be housed at 1111 Howe Avenue, in the city of Sacramento. Unitek was assisted by Steve Park from Colliers. Classes are scheduled to begin January 2007.
